Certificate Programs

A Certificate program provides a mechanism to demonstrate knowledge and competence in a specialized area of practice, promotes standards of excellence and identifies those who have met a high level of competence and a nationally recognized standard.

Member Price: $375.00 Non-Member Price: $750.00

CAMRT reserves the right to verify membership status and to reclaim the difference between the member and non-member CPD course fees, should a discrepancy exist.

The learning and acquired competency will be recognized by a credential which will be sought after by technologists and advocated by employers.

Candidates having successfully met the eligibility requirements may register for the clinical component.  For questions or concerns, please contact specialtycertificates@camrt.ca.

Computed Tomography

CT Therapy Certificate

The radiation therapist is an essential healthcare professional providing treatment needed in the fight against cancer. A therapist with CT skills can more accurately plan and individualize treatment for each patient. Use of CT has allowed for more accurate treatment simulation, treatment planning and treatment delivery.

The CTRT program is designed to provide knowledge and clinical competence in CT allowing for more accurate treatment, planning, simulation and delivery.

Program Eligibility:

  • MRTs certified in Radiation Therapy
  • Internationally Educated Medical Radiation Technologists (IEMRTs) in the specialty of radiation therapy who are graduates of medical radiation technology programs*
  • Successful completion of CT Imaging 1 with >75% on the final examination

*see Program Handbook for required documentation PRIOR to starting the clinical component

Certificate in CT Imaging

The CT technologist is essential to the patient’s outcome in medical imaging. Advances in image quality, reduction in scan times and radiation dose make it necessary for the CT technologist to continuously improve their competence in clinical practice.

The CTIC program is designed to provide knowledge and clinical competence in the advancing practice of CT imaging.

Program Eligibility:

  • MRTs certified in Radiological Technology or Nuclear Medicine Technology
  • Internationally Educated Medical Radiation Technologists (IEMRTs) who are graduates of medical radiation technology programs*
  • Successful completion of CT Imaging 1 with >75% on the final examination

Upcoming Changes

*see Program Handbook for required documentation PRIOR to starting the clinical component

Certificate in PET/CT

The PET/CT technologist is a highly skilled healthcare provider who performs exams using radioactive pharmaceuticals and advanced imaging equipment for detection of disease processes.

The PET/CT program is designed to provide knowledge and clinical competence in the practice of medical imaging that allows for the functional imaging obtained with PET to be precisely aligned with anatomic imaging obtained by CT.

Program Eligibility:

  • MRTs certified in Nuclear Medicine Technology
  • Internationally Educated Medical Radiation Technologists (IEMRTs) in the specialty of nuclear medicine who are graduates of medical radiation technology programs*
  • Successful completion of CT Imaging 1 with >75% on the final examination

Upcoming Changes

*see Program Handbook for required documentation PRIOR to starting the clinical component

Breast Imaging

Certificate in Breast Imaging - Screening

Medical radiation technologists (MRTs) who perform screening mammography have a special role in the healthcare of the public. MRTs must be highly competent practitioners excelling in their ability to produce quality images and to manage the patient with care and expertise in a highly technical environment.

The CBIS program is designed to provide knowledge and clinical competence in the practice of beast screening.

Program Eligibility:

  • MRTs certified in Radiological Technology
  • Internationally Educated Medical Radiation Technologists (IEMRTs) who are graduates of medical radiation technology programs*
  • Successful completion of Mammography 1 and Mammography 2** / Breast Imaging 1 and Breast Imaging 2 (or a combination of both) with >75% on the final examination of each course
  • 1450 hours as a practicing mammography technologist over the three (3) years preceding registration into the CBIS program

Upcoming Changes

*see Program Handbook for required documentation PRIOR to starting the clinical component

**Effective January 1, 2021 CAMRT’s Mammography 1 and Mammography 2 will no longer be accepted as prerequisites.

Certificate in Breast Imaging - Diagnostic

Medical radiation technologists (MRTs) who perform breast imaging procedures have a special role in the healthcare of the public. MRTs must be highly competent practitioners excelling in their ability to produce quality images and to manage the patient with care and expertise in a highly technical environment.

The CBID program is designed to provide knowledge and clinical competence in the practice of breast imaging beyond screening.

  • 1750 hours as a practicing mammography technologist over the three (3) years preceding registration into the CBID program

Upcoming Changes

*see Program Handbook for required documentation PRIOR to starting the clinical component

**Effective January 1, 2021 CAMRT’s Mammography 1 and Mammography 2 will no longer be accepted as prerequisites.

Dosimetry

Dosimetry Certificate

A dosimetrist is an essential member of the radiation oncology team, designing a treatment plan that will deliver a prescribed radiation dose and field placement technique.

The CDC program is designed to provide knowledge and the clinical competence required to generate radiation dose distributions and calculations for optimization of treatment plans.

Program Eligibility:

  • MRTs certified in Radiation Therapy
  • Internationally Educated Medical Radiation Technologists (IEMRTs) in the specialty of radiation therapy who are graduates of medical radiation technology programs*
  • Successful completion of Dosimetry 1 and Dosimetry 2** with >75% on the final examination of each course
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ work experience post-certification as a radiation therapist.

*see Program Handbook for required documentation PRIOR to starting the clinical component

**The 5-year timeline allowed to complete all program requirements begins with the successful completion of Dosimetry 2.

Interventional Radiology

Certificate in Interventional Radiology

The interventional radiology (IR) technologist provides an important role in the IR suite working with other healthcare providers in the performance of minimally invasive procedures that reduce the need for open surgery, target disease and reduce recovery time. This evolving practice is rapidly changing and affecting the quality of patient outcomes.

The CIR is designed to provide knowledge and clinical competency in performance of interventional procedures in a collaborative healthcare environment.

Program Eligibility:
